Karunaratne takes the stand

Businessman Jagath Karunaratne and SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavu who are charged with sedition offences appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday for the hearing of their voir dire application.
Karunaratne took the witness stand yesterday and was cross examined by the Defence Counsel, Aman Ravindra-Singh.
He recalled on the 7th of October, 2011 at around 4pm he was at his home in Vatuwaqa with his wife when he received a call to report to the CID Headquarters in Toorak.
Defence Counsel, Ravindra-Singh asked Karunaratne if he was told of his rights and he said that he was not given the chance.
He also said that he was taken to the Nabua Police Station and he was taken to a cell block and was not given the chance to relieve himself.
The case continues today.
