SODELPA MP Semesa Karavaki has expressed disappointment at the election of Jioji Konrote as the President.
Speaking to FBC News outside Parliament yesterday, Karavaki says they will take the matter to court.
Karavaki is adamant President elect Jioji Konrote does not qualify for Presidency.
He quoted Section 83 of the 2013 Constitution which says that any person nominated for Presidency should not be a member of or hold any office in any political party.
Despite a ruling from the Speaker of Parliament that Konrote has resigned from the Fiji First Party through a communication to her office – outside Parliament – Karavaki maintained that Konrote still does not qualify as he is STILL a member of the FijiFirst Party.
He told FBC News, they will take the issue to court as politics cannot be taken to the high office.
Meanwhile, social media were rampant of reports of a protest outside of Parliament by the Opposition. The report, posted on a page which allegedly belongs to the Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa called for Fijians to join them in a protest against Konrote’s Presidency.
Kepa denied the reports were from her or from her office.
