Kadavu Fishermen’s Association receives new boat

The Kadavu Fishermen’s Association received a new engine boat from the government.

Handing over the boat, Minister for Forests Osea Naiqamu says the association is a trendsetter for all other local associations.

Naiqamu heard the association has advanced into sustainable management for their traditional fishing grounds.

The association implemented sustainable harvesting practices and pledged their support in seasonal and long term bans on various marine species.

Fishing Aggregate Devices were also deployed around the island.

The association plays an integral part in data collecting for the Fisheries Ministry in terms of fish harvested in a week as well as species.
