The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation launched a boat to serve the province of Kadavu over the weekend.

The boat ’Kadavu Eagle’ is aimed at improving service delivery to the province with a population of over 10,000 and 75 villages.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa while launching the boat in Suva said accessibility is a challenge for most of the villages and getting around the island has been difficult, thus the boat will be used primarily by ministry staff to deliver services around the maritime villages on Kadavu.

Vuniwaqa says in 2015, the social welfare office in Kadavu was opened and has since been providing much needed assistance to the people of Kadavu and these services include easier access to financial assistance for the underprivileged, quicker response to child protection and family issues, more awareness programs and availability of advice for the locals.
