Judge maintains bail on sedition case

The Lautoka High Court has maintained the bail ruling for three men charged with sedition and Inciting Communal Antagonism earlier this week.

Timoci Nagata, Pita Camaimoala Vakatawa and Saimoni Nacolawa are charged under the Crimes Decree 2009.

The State maintains the argument of public safety and said their affidavit wasn’t considered by the Magistrate when the case was first called in the Magistrates Court.

Defence lawyer Aman Singh stressed there is still to be a single piece of evident produced in Court and the mention of firearms are a serious matter because the firearms had been missing from the RFMF since the 2000 coup.

A ruling on the DPP’s application to revoke the bail will be heard at midday tomorrow.
