The tourism industry provides many job opportunities for school leavers and will continue says the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association.

President, Dixon Seeto says there’s about fourteen thousand school leavers a year and most of them are absorbed into various hospitality sectors.

Seeto says with high competition from other countries, the industry is ensuring that it addresses its employee to guest ratio.

“Unlike many industries, you know as they alternate, there’s less people involved but tourism industry is just the opposite, we’re very people intensive. People measure in terms of the employee to guest ratio, the more employee to guests is better and this is where we have competition from Asia where there is a large staff to guest ratio.”

FHTA says tourism has experienced continued growth and deepening ‎diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world.

In Fiji, it’s our biggest foreign exchange earner and contributes more than thirty percent to Fiji’s GDP.
