People of Wainawaqa in Naitasiri have achieved a milestone today after the commissioning of their water protection works.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while commissioning the project, assured them not to worry about flooding anymore as the construction of eight boulder groyne works will provide them security.
He adds when the project is completed, Wainawaqa River will no longer be a threat to them.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama also told villagers not to forget that the struggle brought by climate change is not Fiji’s struggle alone as those in China, Europe and other parts of the world also experience similar situations.
The PM also commissioned the Nadakuni riverbank protection project at a cost of $975,000 while the project at Wainawaqa costs the government $984,000.
