Minister for Communication, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, is calling on the media organizations to invest in journalists so they can become specialist climate change reporters.
Sayed-Khaiyum says journalists play an important role in getting the message of climate change to the public.
With government at the forefront of advocating on the effects of climate change in the Pacific and the world, Sayed-Khaiyum says it is vital for journalists to be aware of the details involving the issue.
“But as I also mention that Media organization needs to invest in their journalist to help probably one or two to become specialist in the area of climate change or disaster management because they need to take a more sophisticated approach.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says journalists should have more understanding of natural disasters and climatic weather patterns.
