A celebration to commemorate International Youth Day will be held in Lautoka on Friday.
The event is a day set aside globally under the umbrella of the United Nations to celebrate young people’s achievement and set visions and goals for them.
Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Jone Nemani says the theme for this year’s IYD is Transforming Education bringing into focus efforts to make education more significant for all youth.
It also highlights the global vision and part of the country’s 5 and 20 years National Development Plans (NDP) to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth.
Nemani says the government has placed a lot of importance on the empowerment of our youths through incentives such as the scholarship and loans programmes, the young entrepreneurship scheme and the various mobile and specific skills programmes within the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He adds the event recognises our youth population.
The programme will start with a march led by the National Youth Band from Shirley Park with Lautoka based Government departments present at Churchill Park to promote their programmes.
