International Day of Forests celebrated in the North

School students in North have planted the most number of trees in the three weeks of the International Day of Forests campaign.

Speaking at the IDOF celebration in Tabia Labasa Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says students in the North planted 4, 504 trees.

This is approximately 0.06 percent of the national planting target of 4 million trees.

Lavena District School and Saqani District School planted the highest numbers of trees.

Director Forestry North Moape Lotawa says officials visited 72 schools in Vanua Levu to spread the gospel on the importance of forests.

The visits ended with the planting of native trees.

The Commissioner Northern has commended the collaborative team effort by Ministry officials in the North as well as teachers and students for achieving the highest schools visited and most trees planted at the national level.
