Insurance scheme for civil servants launched today

The insurance scheme for all civil servants, was launched in Suva today with over 100,000 employees to benefit from this.

The insurance also covers social welfare recipients, the Judiciary department, Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Auditor General’s Office, the Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the insurance doesn’t only cover health issues.

“As announced in the budget, we have coverage for expenses like funeral, fire, also personal injury, death and that is applicable, and death payment is applicable up to the age of 70.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says such package has also extended to farmers in the sugarcane sector, rice, dairy and copra farmers.

Fiji Care Managing Director, Peter McPherson says that this sort of insurance is definitely world class.

“The insurance tried to put it together for 2 years prior to this. We all got together, we all got this package done and Fiji Care picked it up and ran with it, so we could do it in six weeks after 2 years in negotiations.”

The insurance covers 107, 417 people of which 72, 376 are social welfare recipients and 35, 041 are civil servants.
