Installation of Tui Labasa to be closely observed

All traditional protocols regarding the installation of the new Tui Labasa will be closely observed says the Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.

Speaking to FBC News, Ratu Wiliame says, he has been traditionally informed today that the Vanua of Naseakula is ready for the installation of Ratu Jone Qomate as the next Tui Labasa.

Ratu Wiliame will be leading the chiefly clan of Caumatalevu from Naduri, for the ‘vakagunuvi’ of the new Tui Labasa.

This will involve Ratu Wiliame giving Ratu Jone Qomate a bowl of kava to traditionally signify that he has been chosen and installed.

He says all protocols have been followed and the Native Lands Commission as well as the families involved are in agreement with the installation.

Ratu Wiliame adds, the Macuata Provincial office and the Commissioner’s Office have been informed as well.

He adds, despite rumours, he doesn’t see any disagreements or dispute regarding Ratu Jone’s installation.

The installation will be held at Naseakula Village, tomorrow morning.
