Innovative solutions needed to tackle Climate Change: Punja

July 16, 2017 12:43 am

Climate Change is going to be the single biggest challenge for the Pacific, but Fiji is punching well above its weight in championing COP23, says Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, Yogesh Punja.

Speaking at the Ecocity World Summit in Melbourne last week, Punja says the concerns of Climate Change and the theme around Ecocities are linked and inseparable.

He says innovative solutions should consider the basic needs of affected people and offer advice that can be understood at grassroots level.

Punja says the Climate Change Action Pacific Partnership conference recently held in Fiji brought together more than 300 people.

He says the participants recognized the need to support Small Islands Developing States transiting into a low carbon economy.

Punja says the major component of this is making public infrastructure and utilities energy efficient and the use of renewable energy resources.
