Ineligible Homes CARE recipients return cards: Minister

People who were not affected by the recent Tropical Cyclones and received assistance under the Homes CARE initiative are calling the Ministry to return their cards.

This was confirmed by Poverty Alleviation Minister, Mereseini Vuniwaqa.

Vuniwaqa says people are finally realizing that it is wrong to take advantage of such initiatives which was rolled out to help those who are in need.

“For the past few days we have been receiving calls from people who have been wanting to return their cards which have been issued once they have realized that they may not have been eligible to apply in first place but had gone ahead and applied.”

Vuniwaqa says this is government’s commitment to assist those whose homes were damaged or their household items destroyed during Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni.

She warned those who did not suffer loss during the natural disasters to refrain from applying for assistance.

The Minister warns anyone caught doing so will face heavy penalties.
