Indian national jailed for fraud

An Indian national Mukesh Purohit has been sentenced to 3 years 11 months imprisonment by the Suva Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Purohit was convicted of using a forged document and conspiracy to defraud – influencing a public official.

He used a birth certificate knowing that it was false and conspired with another person with the intention of dishonestly influencing Fiji Immigration Officers in the exercise of their duties in the issuance of a passport.

He has 28 days to appeal his sentence.
