Indian government provides further assistance to SME sector

The Indian government has provided further financial assistance towards Fiji’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises program.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Vishwas Sapkal yesterday handed over a cheque of over two million dollars to Industry and Trade Minister Premila Kumar.

While receiving the grant Kumar says it is a special occasion not only for the Fijian government but for the grassroots people as well who will benefit from the assistance.

She says Fiji needs to grow its economy further and nothing is better than looking after the micro enterprises.

The Minister says Fiji has a lot to learn from India.

We know how much talents are there in India. We’ve seen how your economy has grown through this (micro, small & medium) sector and there is so much to learn from. So these are the initial interventions in this area that we’d like to learn from. So thank you for the financial assistance – it will go a long war for our people.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the commitment to assist Fiji’s SME sector during his official visit in 2014.
