300 hundred sewing machines have been donated to the Ministry of Women from the government of India.
Minister for Women rosy Akbar says the donation shows the two nations close friendship and the strong diplomatic relations that have been built over the years.
She says the Ministry has so far distributed 3077 sewing machines to 1709 communities and 25 individuals since 2009.
Akbar says these sewing machines have become reliable tools in improving lives of women and children.
“The amount of sewing machines given today will propel us to expand the coverage of women’s organizations and individuals in Fiji. We will now be able to equip vocational centers for disabled persons as well.”
The Ministry has received a total of 800 sewing machines from India since 2009.
