The PAFCO Fishing Company in Levuka will now be able to store four thousand metric tonnes of Tuna in their storage facility.
This is a major boost for the tuna Industry in Fiji as Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama opened a new cold storage facility worth $16.4 million.
Bainimarama says PAFCO has come a long way since its establishment in 1964 and with the opening of a new storage facility, the company is slowly transforming financially.
“And it’s not only financial assistance; by working hand-in-hand with tuna industry stakeholders, my Government has worked to address the policy issues facing PAFCO and the fish that are its lifeblood. In last year’s Budget, we removed VAT for PAFCO’s tuna suppliers.”
Bainimarama says the new cold storage facility is a bold step for government in supporting PAFCO.
