Increase in domestic violence this festive season

Police are concerned at the increasing number of domestic violence cases reported this festive season.

Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says these cases are fueled by alcohol.

Qiliho says the Fiji Police Force doesn’t condone acts of violence against women.

I mentioned that from Day 1 since taking office and unfortunately those cases have continued to happen the PM has spoken on it, the President has spoken. We need to come out on and talk about this. Religious leaders, Vanua leaders, community leaders need to speak out.

The Fiji Police Force received 52 domestic violence cases between January and November this year.

Fifty cases were against women and two against men.
