The primary responsibility for the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action lies with governments.

While speaking at the CSW 63rd High-Level Interactive Dialogue at the UN Headquarters in New York, Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa says an integrated and balanced approach should be adopted by all governments in an effort to implement the policy.

Vuniwaqa says governments should relook at its legislation, policies, and programmes to ensure that its actions specifically targets the empowerment of women and girls.

“This should also be supported by institutional arrangements, adequate data, targets, measurable goals and mechanisms for accountability. This is an immense task which requires alliance building and strengthening partnerships with all relevant stakeholders.”

Vuniwaqa says the Interactive Dialogue should include dialogue, partnership, and inclusion in an effort to address inequalities.

She has urged relevant stakeholders to support the needs of women and girls in societies.
