September 20, 2019 12:40 pm

Senior civil servants, Military and Police officers will now be issued an official passport if they’re crossing the border mostly in the Middle East.

The official passport was launched together with the e-passports earlier this week and this passport will enable them to go straight to the diplomatic counters at airports.

Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister’s Office Yogesh Karan, says this will make passing any border much easier for the officers.

“It’s just that if you are passing some of the airports, you will see there are counters which says diplomatic or official passports. So at the moment unless an official is carrying a diplomatic passport you don’t have quick services you will have to stand in a line as anyone else. Now the senior civil servants will be able to access that counter.”

The Permanent Secretary has clarified the official passport has similar features as the other passports.
