The spotlight has been relations between the ILO and Fiji in recent months.

In March, a tripartite agreement was signed between the government, the trade unions and the employer federation outlining a framework on the review of labour laws in the country.

However, the tripartite parties failed to agree and presented separate reports to the ILO’s governing body earlier this month.

The ILO noted that labour laws needed to be compliant with the conventions and has given Fiji until November to sort it out or face a Commission of Inquiry.

Lamotte has been in Fiji since 2011 and has been responsible for about nine member Pacific states of the ILO.
