Illegal taxi operations remain a major concern for most legitimate taxi operators.
Fiji Taxi Association General Secretary Rishi Ram says illegal taxis are causing a huge loss for legal operators.
LTA Chief Executive Naisa Tuinaceva says in the past they have warned private car owners found operating illegally.
“Fiji is a small place our road networking is not that complex and we know who they are, the owners of these vehicles even from reports given to us we call these people, we warn them we have told them the actions that will be taken against them. So most of these people are operating in most of our big town like Suva, Nausori, Nadi, Lautoka. The only message to them is still the same. We catch them we going to take them to task.”
Tuinaceva is advising members of the public to report such illegal activities to the authority.
