Illegal Parking around Suva city is a concern for the Fiji Roads Authority.

General Manager Network Operations Aram Goes says un-authorized parking contributes to traffic congestion around the city.

Goes says vehicle owners illegally park their vehicles on footpaths, yellow lines and on natural strips which is not allowed.

”Illegal parking contributes to traffic congestion and poses a risk to pedestrians. We have noticed that motorist’s park on footpaths and on natural strips which is not only damaging the infrastructure but also compromising safety”

Goes says drivers are even ignoring parking signs and park on spaces designated for persons with disabilities.

He also adds parking lots are available for drivers to park their cars which are safe for both drivers and pedestrians to use.

FRA is closely collaborating with the City Council and other relevant stakeholders to address the issue.
