The Lautoka Rural Local Authority has intervened in a number of cases of people building illegal structures in rural areas.

Authority chairman, Faiyaz Ali says the dwellers have been told to follow proper procedures.

Ali says there are rules and regulations that must be followed to build a new house or even extend a building.

He adds illegal structures that don’t have proper plans can be dangerous in a cyclone or fire.
