I knew the motion will be defeated: PM

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama expected the motion of no confidence filed against him by SODELPA MP Semesa Karavaki would be defeated.

Bainimarama says he had been looking forward to the motion.

Speaking exclusively to FBC, Bainimarama says he understood the real intention of the motion against him filed by Opposition.

“You remember, I said in the last couple of days we were looking forward to it because we know the intention of the motion and its not really to remove me because they know we have the numbers. The intention of the motion was to bring about all those issues they have been harping about for the last two years. They have been whining about those issues and we know that but see it backfired on them.”

Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa, who believes the Opposition is being silenced by the Government, told FBC news she was trying to get Bainimarama out legally.

“The motion is a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister and we are doing that legally rather than carrying out a coup. So we are doing it by legal means.”

Bainimarama adds he was hoping the Opposition would bring the motion because he knew the motion will backfire on them and it did.

So, with the rejection of the non-confidence motion the parliamentary dispute of the past two days is over – and the government goes on.
