Hundreds of Christians mark the start of lent

Hundreds of Fijians turned up today at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva to mark Ash Wednesday.

Families, friends and working people took out time from their busy schedules to be part of the sermons.

Ash Wednesday also known as the day of ashes, is a day where Christians confess their sins and devote themselves to God.

Ash Wednesday is important as it marks the start of the Lent period leading up to Easter.

Lent is celebrated over 46 days. It includes 40 days of fasting and six Sundays, on which fasting is not practiced.
