Around 900 applications are wait-listed with the Public Rental Board.

PRB Acting General Manager Pat Veu says they are working hard to get these people flats, however, it will take time.

“There is one in Simla, 36 units which is in progress funded by the government of $3.6million and there is a proposal of 140 units in Newtown which we hope to commence soon under the PPP project.”

Veu says tenants can only occupy flats for two years and if they want to renew their application, they can, however, the PRB will be stricter on them.

Meanwhile, overcrowded flats is an issue the PRB is also working on.
