May 8, 2018 4:55 am

Hundreds of people turned up at Sukuna Park in Suva today to celebrate World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day.

The Fiji Red Cross, Marketing and Event Manager, Bridget Middenway-Blumel says the theme for this year’s event is “A smile which is a universal sign of happiness.”

“So with red cross we are here to bring a smile to people’s faces, we are here to bring them back together, to bring their families together, that’s why we celebrate and we also celebrate to acknowledge and thank the staff and volunteers as without them as there are a lot of things that won’t be possible.”

She says on this day they celebrate the bravery and achievements those volunteers and staff who have done humanity work for the world.

Blumel says their goal is to build resilient communities through Health, Disaster Risk Reduction, Water and Sanitation and first aid training.
