Close to 200 participants from around the Pacific are attending the first-ever Pacific Philosophy Conference which got underway in Suva yesterday.
Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies Director Dr Frances Koya-Vakauta says this conference will focus on enhancing the skills of students that will help them in their studies.
“We are not looking at Pacific Culture from 500 years ago, we are looking at our cultural memory, our recent history and our current realities”
Koya-Vakauta says around 20 representatives from the University of the South Pacific are part of the conference.
She says that the younger generations should learn their Pacific Culture and have an understanding of their ancestors.
Meanwhile, the theme for the conference is “Vuku ni Pacifika”.
