Huge turnout at Labasa Fiji Day celebrations

There was a huge turnout at the Subrail Park in Labasa this morning for the commemoration of Fiji’s Independence Day.

Hundreds of students, civil servants and members of the public, started of the Fiji Day celebrations in Labasa this morning with a march from Y-Corner to Subrail Park.

Chief Guest Mereseini Vuniwaqa reminded them that Independence Day, should be a time to also reflect on our past as well as the struggle of men and women who have helped moulded Fiji to what it is today.

_“They’ve shaped and continued to mould out lives thus shaping the destiny and future of our beloved country. Today is the day to think of the sacrifices and commitment that they made to ensure that we live in a better life today. Today is a time to look forward to our future. I believe we are on the threshold of achieving even greater things.” _

Fiji Day will be commemorated with a public holiday tomorrow.
