The Housing Authority will now offer specific housing lots for those Fijians who wish to migrate from low cost housing rentals under the Public Rental Board to owning their home.

Minister for Housing Parveen Kumar has clarified there is now a directive in place to make home ownership more affordable particularly for those who are low income earners.

“All Housing Authority Subdivision, we have lots that will cost you between 15 to 25 thousand dollars for those that are deciding on PRB rental flats, this is the new program that we have bought in.”

Kumar says previously the vacant Housing Authority lots were in the more expensive range and those living in the PRB flats were unable to afford the land prices.

“Before it was 50 thousand, 60 thousand dollars, that’s still there, but that’s for a different class. This is what I said in Lautoka, all those who are in PRB flats, if they want to migrate, if they want to go and gradually move on, Housing Authority is here, we will make sure that you will get the first chance to get a lot there so you can own a property.”

According to Housing Authority’s Board Director, Roveen Permal, there will be 72 lots subdivided in Nepani and those between 280 square metres and 400 square metres will be priced between 15 thousand to 25 thousand dollars.

He adds an additional 756 lots will be worked on in Davuilevu, with smaller subdivided lots to fall into the similar price range.
