HMAS Canberra leaves for Fiji

Australian Royal Navy boat HMAS Canberra, stocked with aid is on its way to Fiji.

The boat left the Port of Brisbane last night and is expected to arrive in Fiji on Tuesday.

More than fifty tonnes of aid including water, food and medical supplies is on board HMAS Canberra.

There are more than eight-hundred and fifty people from the Australian Army, Navy and the Air Force as well as 96 vehicles and 3 helicopters.

The team will be able to get basic necessaries to the most remote areas, ravaged by TC Winston in Fiji.

HMAS Canberra is the biggest ship in the Australian Royal Navy and this is its first deployment since it was commissioned in November 2014

The crew is expected to be in Fiji for at least a month.
