An elderly woman was rushed to hospital this afternoon after she was hit by a taxi while crossing Khalsa Road at Delaivalelevu.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro says the woman is in a stable condition but suffered injuries.

Eyewitnesses say the woman had got off a bus and was crossing the road when the taxi hit her.

She was rushed to the hospital by residents of Khalsa Road.

Naisoro says people have to abide road laws and take precaution.

“Just an advisory to motorists and pedestrians to follow the road rules. If everybody is cautious then we will not have accidents.”

The driver has been taken by police for questioning.
