A high number of lease breaches have been identified by the Itaukei Lands Trust Board for their tenants in the Labasa area.

TLTB General Manager North, Josaia Waqairatu says they have called all their tenants in the township area, to discuss about these breaches.

“The purpose of this awareness is to inform you of your lease terms and conditions and at the same time allow you to realize the effects and unlawful purpose or anything you’re doing which is contrary to your lease and our laws and regulations.”

Waqairatu says some breaches found include the non-payment of subletting fees, commercial and industrial lease being used for other purposes and buildings not having proper building plans.

Following the consultation, tenants were given a month to rectify any breaches they may have regarding their lease terms and conditions before TLTB starts its inspections again.

TLTB officers are carrying out their monitoring and inspections every Friday.

They are also inspecting residential leases.

Anyone found to be breaching their lease terms and conditions are liable of a fine of more than $2,000.
