High level discussions for HR

The Fijian Government in partnership with the Pacific Community’s Regional Rights Resource Team will be hosting a Regional High-Level Dialogue.

In partnership with the Universal Rights Group, the meeting which begins tomorrow will focus on national mechanisms for human rights implementation in the Pacific region.

The objective of this Dialogue is to help Pacific Island Countries in implementing and reporting on their human rights obligations, the Sustainable Development Goals, and other national development priorities.

The challenge for them, and for similar countries across the globe, is to find the most effective and efficient mechanism for both coordinating implementations of their commitments and reporting on progress made on human rights implementation.

The official opening would be done by Nazhat Shameem Khan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Fiji to the United Nations in Geneva along with Melanie Hopkins, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom and Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes.
