High demand of Tausala dalo overseas

October 2, 2015 1:30 am

The Ministry for Agriculture will re-direct some of its resources to boost production of tausala dalo in Bua and Ra.

Agriculture Permanent Secretary Uraia Waibuta says the change in strategy is necessary because of a high demand for tausala dalo from overseas.

‘This is where the focus on tausala variety will be moving towards .We have moved already but infrastructure developments such as roads, and other assistance will be diverted to these areas because of the soil fertility that still exists and we hope to get yields in order to meet demands for tausala .’

Waibuta says Taveuni is well known for high production of tausala dalo.

However, poor soil fertility has seen production decline from 500 tonnes to 100 tonnes annually.
