HIEs enumerators briefed on challenges

Anti-government sentiment is one of challenges enumerators for the 2019-2020 Household Income and Expenditure Survey have been briefed on.

During a one week training – enumerators of the Fiji Bureau of Statistics not only covered the basics of the study but also the risk involved in visiting some of their allocated areas.

Enumerator Aleta Duvaga says they will be out on the field from tomorrow in all four divisions carrying out the Survey.

“Especially those that are anti-government and since we just conducted our census national survey that was done back in 2017 and people might want to know why we are there again.”

Enumerator, Maria Volau says they’ve been trained on how to approach people and reassure them on the confidentiality of the information received.

“Some of the respondents can be very unfriendly and there’s anti-government. There will be more questions on why we conducting this surveys.”

Chief Statistician Mitieli Cama says enumerators have already completed one week of awareness on the study to participating households.

The Bureau says all enumerators will be carrying their Identification card and also a letter from police to prove their role in the one year study.
