Assistance have started to pour in for villagers of Dreketi on Qamea Island in Taveuni following the landslides that occurred early Sunday morning.
Laucala Island Resort is the first to respond, donating $300,000 to rebuild the village school which was badly damaged in one of the two landslides.
The SODELPA Somosomo Branch members arrived in the village late yesterday with half tonne of rice, half tonne of flour and half tonne of sugar.
Today, the government barge Sigavou is taking food, water and clothes to the villagers who are in direct need of the necessities.
The two landslides damaged about 7 homes, destroyed the health centre, the school and the village hall.
Two homes were burnt down by a fire which started from a kerosene stove that fell when the house was displaced during the landslide.
