Heavy Rain and strong wind warning still in place

Heavy rain and strong wind warning is still in place for most parts of the country as tropical disturbance TD02F is affecting the Fiji Group.

Fiji Meteorological Services Director Ravind Kumar says a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is affecting the group.

”Tropical Disturbance, TD02F lies slow moving to the east of Solomon Islands embedded within the trough, which extends to the west of Fiji. It is expected to gradually move southeast and anticipated to pass over the Fiji Waters on Thursday.”

Kumar says because of the tropical disturbance, heavy rain and strong winds will start affecting the country from tonight.

”The system is moving into an unfavorable environment and has very low chance of intensifying into a depression or a cyclone. A “Heavy Rain Warning” remains in force for the southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu. A “Heavy Rain Alert” remains in force for the rest of the Fiji Group. Anticipate cloudy periods with occasional showers, heavy at times and thunderstorms. And a “Strong Wind Warning “is now in force for land areas of southern Lau and Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group and the western and southern parts of Viti Levu.”

Kumar says strong winds up to 60km per hour can also be experienced in outer islands.

Kumar says the disturbance is moving to an unfavorable environment and has very low chances of intensifying into a depression or cyclone.

The disturbance will affect the country till Thursday.
