The Health Ministry is on track to expand the measles vaccination campaign to other divisions.

Head of Health Protection Dr Aalisha Sahukhan says they will focus on the same group of people targeted in the Central Division.

Dr Sahukhan says the campaign will target children aged 6 months to 5 years and everyone born between the years 1980 to 2000.

“Once the vaccines arrive we will be able to roll out the targeted campaign which has begun in the central decision to the rest of the country.”

Dr Sahukhan has also provided clarification on mass gatherings.

“For mass gathering we are targeting gatherings that bring people from around the country into a particular location or even events that bring people from around the region in particular from Samoa and Tonga.”

Since the roll-out of phase two of the immunization campaign over 65,000 Fijians in the Central Division have been vaccinated.

There are currently 18 confirmed cases of measles in the country with 12 cases from the Serua/Namosi Subdivision, 4 from the Suva Subdivision and 2 cases from the Rewa Subdivision.
