Vaccination campaign expands to other divisions

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqinabete says Fiji is expected to receive additional doses of measles vaccine that will enable them to expand their campaign.

The Health Ministry will be utilizing newly procured government ships for vaccination campaigns particularly for measles in the other divisions.

Dr Waqainabete says they started the campaign by vaccinating the high-risk individuals and the next step now is vaccinating the moderate to low risk individuals.

“We will be utilizing the maritime vessel Veivueti and we will be able to support the processes. For the Eastern division and other islands we will call upon the support from the other government ships.”

Since the roll-out of phase two of the immunization campaign, over 45,000 Fijians in the Central division have been vaccinated.

There are currently 18 confirmed cases of measles in the country with 12 cases from the Serua/Namosi Subdivision 4 cases from Suva Subdivision and 2 cases from Rewa Subdivision.
