Public Health Protection Bill under review

The Health Ministry is currently reviewing its Public Health Protection bill.

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, says this is done to help reduce Non-Communicable Diseases.

Dr Waqainabete says sedentary lifestyle is found to be a risk factor for NCDs.

“What is a known fact is that you may have a relatively good gene, but if you move to a more sedentary lifestyle together with the environmental influences, and then the risk factors that are there in that area and the prevalence is something that you will also be faced with.”

Dr Waqainabete says the government is taking the first step to live healthy by putting in place recreational facilities such as the ‘My Suva Park’ and Water Sides in Lautoka.

The Minister says NCD tablets have also been included in the free medicine scheme.
