PIFR will benefit Fijians: Dr Hawea

The new Pacific Island Food revolution will benefit all Fijians as it aims to revive all tradition Fijian foods and showcase how best one can utilize them.

Speaking at the Food Revolution TV Series launch, Dr Jone Hawea says Fiji is quickly moving towards processed foods and this has greatly increased the number of Non-Communicable Diseases.

Dr Hawea says Fiji’s cuisine is healthy, fresh and unique.

“I’m glad that the design was made to make our local cuisine, our traditional food glamorous. I’m sure that it will really appeal to everybody because we are harnessing tradition. So I’m sure that this programme will really influence and be a game changer for us and for our battler against NCDs in the Pacific.”

He adds with Fiji having a young population, this programme can help get them on the right track in the fight against NCDs.

Meanwhile, Dr Hawea will be part of a panel in the Pacific Island Food revolution TV series that will begin airing from this Thursday on FBC TV.
