The Health Ministry is exploring funding options to continue the release of Wolbachia carrying mosquito in other parts of the country.

Health Chief Inspector Dip Chand says the first two-phase has completed in the central and western division.

Chand stressed the need to further the program so Fiji becomes safer from diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika.

“We’re in negotiating with our funding agency and probably this week we were supposed to meet them in Wellington to negotiate with the funding arrangements, however due to this unforeseen circumstances we have postponed that meeting but this program will continue.”

This year Fiji has so far recorded more than 2500 cases of dengue and at least one person has died from the mosquito-borne disease.
