Obstetric Care cannot be provided anyhow says Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.
Obstetric Care is the treatment of women in childbirth as before and after delivery treatment is important.
Dr Waqainabete, highlighted this issue while responding to a question as to why babies cannot be delivered at the Mokani Health Centre in Tailevu.
He told members of the Tailevu Provincial Council that services cannot be delivered anywhere as basic emergency obstetric and newborn care is critical to reducing maternal and neonatal death
“The Nausori Maternity Unit is being overseen by Dr James Fong – the consultant Obstetrician at CWM and he’s on constant contact with the doctors and the midwives here and they have that special team of obstetrics in that area.”
A specialized team is needed for Obstetric Care and currently, it’s not available at the Mokani Health Center.
