Mass gatherings discouraged for Serua/ Namosi

People travelling to Serua/Namosi Province are advised to get measles vaccination two weeks prior to travelling.

Ministry of Health’s Head of Health Protection Dr Aalisha Sahu Khan says vaccines are available free of cost for children, those travelling overseas or to outbreak areas.

She adds they’re also discouraging gatherings in the outbreak area.

“We advise them that if you are travelling please do not travel to Serua/Namosi unless you have a very good reason to go there. We are discouraging non-essential travel. We are discouraging mass gathering at Serua/Namosi but if you do have to travel to that area please make sure you are immunized two weeks before you travel.”

Dr Sahu Khan says the ministry is targeting groups that are more likely to come in contact with measles.
