“In Fiji, we are doing our utmost to ensure that increased quality specialist services are available in the country.”

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete made the comments while officiating at the Pacific islands meeting on sub-regional collaboration for specialized healthcare services today.

He says the Fijian Government’s recent venture into a partnership with Australia based Aspen Medical Pty Limited will see overseas quality medical services brought right to the doorsteps of Fijian citizens at affordable costs.

Dr. Waqainabete told delegates that the challenges in the Pacific are real as the growing burden of diseases in the region is stretching the limits of the region’s capacity, causing countries to dig deep with the scarcity of what they have.

He adds it is therefore vitally important, as leaders, to ensure that our health resources are being employed in the most efficient and effective ways.
The regional meeting has brought together representatives of health sectors from around the region at this two-day event which ends tomorrow.
