The Government has spent about 406 million dollars annually on the treatment of Non-Communicable Diseases in recent years.
This was revealed by President Major General Retired Jioji Konrote while officiating at a diabetic workshop in Suva today.
The President says government together with the Health Ministry has worked tirelessly in trying to combat NCD’s.
He says there should be more awareness on diabetes as it’s one of the major contributor to the high level of mortality rate in Fiji.
“Sadly and most regrettably, most Fijians are dying at a very young age today due to diabetes and it has now become a clear threat and danger”
The President says all relevant stakeholders should work together to prevent diabetes and at the same time promote a healthy Fiji.
