Enough measles vaccines in stock for priority areas: Minister

Minister responsible, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says they prioritize those travelling overseas, those who are not sure of their immunization status and those who live within the vicinity or travelling to the Serua/Namosi subdivision.

The Health Ministry has enough measles vaccines in stock for those high-risk areas.

Dr Waqainabete says they’re bringing in more vaccines.

“For the moment, for those priority areas that we have highlighted yes. Are we getting more stock? Yes, we are. We are hopeful that with UNICEF we will get another 30,000 or 35,000 hopefully today or tomorrow and we will make the necessary arrangements as we go on in terms of ordering more stock. The process is already there in place.

Measles is a highly infectious airborne viral disease.

Symptoms of measles include fever and a rash with any of the following: runny nose, sneezing, cough, red/watery eyes, and white spots inside the mouth.

The rash starts after the other symptoms and spreads all over the body.
